Gertrud Zwicknagl My current interest in the area of Quantum Critical Points are 1. Orbital-selective localization transitions in 5f-systems which arise from the competiton between intra-atomic Hund's rule type correlations and anisotropic hopping: Model calculations based on exact diagonalization for small clusters suggest that the interplay of these effects may lead to highly complex phase diagrams with a great variety of competing ordered ground states. During my stay at KITP I hope to derive a mean-field theory based on a slave-boson approach. The latter should allow us to consider extended systems and finally provide a better understanding of the low-temperature phases in actinide systems. 2. Evolution of the low-energy excitations in the vicinity of the antiferromagnet-heavy fermion QCP in Ce-based heavy fermion compounds: I came here with the goal to learn more about current theoretical ideas and ansatzes.
