Martin Einhorn

Martin Einhorn has been Deputy Director of the KITP since September, 2004. Marty received his B.S. with honors from Caltech in 1965 and his PhD in Theoretical Physics from Princeton in 1968, where he was a Woodrow Wilson Graduate Fellow and an NSF Predoctoral Fellow. He held postdoctoral postions at Stanford Linear Accelerator Center and at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, and was a staff member at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory near Chicago. In 1976, he joined the Physics Department of the University of Michigan where he rose through the ranks to Professor. Besides teaching and research, he has long been interested in research policy. At Michigan, he chaired the faculty Senate's Research Policies Committee and, later, the Financial Affairs Advisory Committee. His national service has included membership on the Secretary of Energy's High Energy Physics Advisory Panel from 1983-1987 and as co-Program Director for Theoretical Physics for the National Science Foundation in 2000.
Among his honors, Marty has received a Department of Energy's Outstanding Junior Investigator Award (1978,) was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society (1991,) and was awarded a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship (2003.) He has held visiting professorships at Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics in Copenhagen, at the Center for Theoretical Physics in Marseilles, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and at the Ben Gurion University of the Negev in Be'er Sheva.
