KITP Laptop Printing Guide
To set up your laptop to print on the KITP printers, follow the instructions below. Note - a list of printer queue names, models, and locations is available which you will need when choosing which printer to use.

Windows 
- Click Start
- Click Add a printer
- The Add Printer Wizard will open to the Welcome Window
- Choose "Local printer attached to this computer"
- Un-check "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer"
- Click Next
- Click "Create a new port" radio button
- Choose "Standard TCP/IP Port" from the pull down menu
- Click Next
- The "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard" will open
- The printer name is simply "prtsrv2.kitp.ucsb.edu"
- For the port name, append the name of the queue you are creating in front of "prtsrv2.kitp.ucsb.edu", eg. "lw2202.prtsrv2.kitp.ucsb.edu"
- Leave at default "Generic Network Card"
- Click Finish
- Choose the correct print driver form menu
- Click Next
- Choose the appropriate driver from the list:
- lw2202 HP LaserJet 8150 Series PS
- lw1018 HP LaserJet 8150 Series PS
- color2202 HP Color LaserJet 4600 PS
- lw2400 LaserJect 4100 Series PS
- You may be prompted with a driver window. If you do, click "Keep existing driver"
- Name your printer
- Fill in the queue name as the Printer name
- Click "Yes" to use as default printer (Optional)
- Click Next
- Click "Do not share this printer"
- Print Test Page (Optional)
- Click Finish, but you are not done!
- In "Printers and Faxes" window right mouse click on printer you just created
- The "your printer Properties" box will open
- Click the "Standard TCP/IP Port"
- Click "Configure Port" button
- Click OK
- Configure Standard TCP/IP Port Monitor box will open
- Select the "LPR" radio button
- Type in Queue Name
- Check "LPR Byte Counting Enabled" check box
- Click OK
- Finished.

Linux 
(There may be variations based on the specific flavour of Linux)
Red Hat Linux:
- Start the Printer Configuration utility usually located at Start/Applications/PrinterConfiguration or the System menu.
- Click on the New icon (for adding a new printer).
- Enter the desired queue name from our list.
- Set the queue type to Unix printer.
- To configure the remote lpd server, enter prtsrv2 for the server name and set the queue name the same as in step 3.
- Next choose the printer driver type as Postscript Printer.
- Click Finish.
- Restart the printing services daemon on your laptop (usually when you click finish it prompts for a restart).
- Check progress of printing with the command "lpq -P<queuename>".
