KITP Scholars

The Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics has established a program of visiting researchers in theoretical physics. The purpose of this program is to support the research efforts of faculty at U.S. colleges and universities that are not major research institutions. Applicants from non-Ph.D.-granting institutions and from institutions with greater emphasis on teaching (as measured, for example, by teaching load) are particularly encouraged. Ongoing research activity is also a criterion.

Each award funds a total of three round trips and up to six weeks of local expenses, to be used over a period of up to three years, usually 2 weeks per year. Approximately 8 are chosen each year, with a total of 100 awards up to 2011.

Scientists interested in this program should apply via the form listed on the menu to the right and upload a vita together with a statement describing their research interests before November 15, 2012. Each applicant must also arrange for at least one letter of recommendation to be submitted by this date. Applicants who are unable to upload their materials should still complete the form with a comment to that effect and email the files. Awards will be announced by December 15, 2012.
