KITP LAPTOP POLICY
The KITP encourages visitors to bring their laptops since they are
generally a great aid in accomplishing computing tasks. It should be
noted however, that while the KITP computing staff will provide the
requisite information to make minor configuration changes needed to make
laptops work within this environment, we cannot support laptops as a
rule. Before leaving your home institution, you should ensure that your
laptop has all the required software and is appropriately configured.
Given limited staff time and resources, and given that each laptop has a
unique combination of hardware, software and configuration, our support of laptops is limited to providing information on getting the
most common platforms to connect to the KITP network.
LAPTOP CONFIGURATION
Plug your laptop into the top right hand ethernet port on wall faceplate if available, or to the extra cable from the Cisco telephone. Please don't unplug the KITP iMac as your laptop will not work in this port.
If you would prefer to use wireless access, you will need to contact our computing help desk with your wireless MAC address and then join the network named orb.
The following platforms have detailed procedures available for connecting
your laptop into the KITP network via wired or wireless:
o Linux
o Mac OS
o Windows
If you have a platform not listed above and are familiar with the
configuration changes required, we will do our best to make the
requisite information available. If you have any questions about your
laptop or this policy, please check with us *well before* you embark on
your trip.
