To set up your Windows laptop for use on the KITP ethernet network follow these steps:
1. Open the Start menu on the bottom left of your screen and choose "Settings" -> "Control Panel".
2. From the window that opens, choose the Network control panel by double-clicking it.
3. In the box that appears you will be able to select a few options. One of the things in the list will be labelled TCP/IP. Click on this once, and then click the properties button below.
4. The window will change slighty and the top will consists of many tabs. One of the tabs will read IP Adress. Click on that tab.
5. There will be two main options at this point: Obtain IP Address automatically will be one of them. Make sure this is checked.
6. At this point, click OK as many times as it takes to close all the windows; you are done dealing with the network settings.
7. When you have closed the network control panel your computer will ask you if you want to restart. Click yes and let it reboot itself.
8. When the computer finishes booting, it should be network ready.
