Visa Information
If you are not a U.S. citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident, you will need to determine if you will need a visa to visit the KITP. Our site has information on the various types of visas that may be appropriate for a stay at KITP and on the waiver program.
We would also like to inform you of other sites that may be helpful:
- UCSB's Office of International Students and Scholars
- National Academies Visa Site
- American Physical Society Visa Information for international visitors, especially about delays.
- United States Department of State Waiver Program
The exact figures are not known, but probably 90% of all scientists not eligible to enter under the Waiver Program will find their visas delayed due to "administrative processing," a euphemism for a security review by the Departments of State and of Homeland Security. The delay is unpredictable but usually takes 3-6 weeks to clear. For further information, see the APS web link above concerning "visas mantis" reviews. Unfortunately, there is nothing that KITP can do to expedite this process, but, after 3 weeks, you should complete the NAS questionnaire.
