On-Campus Lodging

Hotel stays in Santa Barbara can be expensive, even with the special rates offfered to the KITP by some of the local hotels.  If you are looking for a less costly alternative, you may wish to consider one of the options listed here.

Reservations should be made as early as possible.  The Faculty Club has only six rooms, and it fills up quickly, often months in advance. The Summer Inn is, as one might suspect, only available during the summer months; actual dates vary from year-to-year. It is often used by UCSB alums and others for family reunions and similar group gatherings, so availability varies.

  • UCSB Faculty Club Guest Rooms

The Club takes reservations year round, and if you identify yourself as a KITP visitor, they will email us to confirm your visit so that you will get the nonmember department discount.   They also have a wireless network and will set up an account to enable you to use it. Rooms are equipped with a private bath, telephone, refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker and clock radio.  Complimentary muffins, coffee, and orange juice are placed in the room daily.  All rooms are non-smoking. If you plan to arrive after hours or on weekends or holidays, you will need to contact the Faculty Club office prior to your arrival date and during office hours (Monday - Friday; 8am - 5pm) for late check-in procedures.

  • Summer Inn Santa Barbara

During the summer months when UCSB is not in session, there is a facility called Summer Inn Santa Barbara.  This lodging is provided in a new UCSB student-housing complex.  The current year's dates of availability and rates for single and double rooms (there are many more doubles than singles) are available on their reservations site.  Parking passes are included. Guests who are expecting to arrive after 9pm on their day of arrival must make prior arrangements with the Summer Inn staff.

Payment in full by credit card or check is due at time of arrival for the total number of nights you expect to stay. You can make your own reservation by phone or by using the online regstration form, and they do not need to contact us to confirm. Cancellations must be in writing by email to summer.inn@ia.ucsb.edu or by fax to 805-893-2662 and need to be submitted no later than 48 hours prior to check in to avoid incurring any charges.

NOTE: Parking permits are now required at all times. Please check Parking - Visitor Information.
If you plan on driving to campus, please be aware that daily parking rates can be costly, $8.00 per day. If the daily option is appropriate for your stay, you will need to drive to Parking Services to purchase a one-day permit. For longer stays, you may want to purchase a long-term parking permit at a more economical rate of $56.00 per month. Be sure to identify yourself as "a KITP visitor/faculty member" to obtain the academic permit eligibility status. The staff can give you a map and directions to park in the Lot 10 structure. Permits are required Monday-Sunday 7:30am-10:00pm and can also be purchased from the parking lot pay machines after business hours (8am-5pm, M-F) when the Parking Services office is closed.

  • DO NOT use the parking lot machine in Lot 10 to buy a 'daily permit' on a weekday (unless you have a handicapped plackard and will be parking in a handicapped space). You will get a ticket! Those permits are NOT VALID there for other full-day visitor parking Monday through Friday.
  • Did you get a parking ticket?
