Registration for this conference is $300 and is due by July 28, 2006 (after that date add $50 late fee).  Conference begins with registration at 8:00 am Dec 31, 1969. Registration includes daily refreshment breaks, lunches and two Special Events Dinners.

A block of rooms has been set aside for the use of our conference participants at The Best Western South Coast Inn in Goleta, California (about 2-1/2 miles from the UCSB Campus--transportation to/from KITP/SCI will be provided. Mention the "STRINGS" group to receive the special rate. Lodging must be reserved by July 27, 2006. After that date rooms MAY BE available to you on a space available basis at their regular rate. General Information for the Conference

SESSIONS: All sessions will be held in the Main Seminar Room, Kohn Hall (KITP), UCSB Campus.

MEALS: The reserved hotel serves a complimentary Continental breakfast for residents. The conference will provide lunches for participants during the conference period. Lunches will be held in the KITP Courtyard. Also, many varying types of food are available on campus or in the nearby cities of Goleta and Santa Barbara.

WHAT TO WEAR: Weather in Santa Barbara can be quite unpredictable.  It is most likely to be warm and sunny, but some days may be cold, damp and foggy. It may even rain! Bring comfortable, casual clothing but be sure to bring sweaters and at least one jacket.

ON CAMPUS PARKING: We strongly advise against trying to park on campus. If you do drive to campus, please read our parking information on our Visitors' information page.

Directions to Best Western South Coast Inn, 5620 Calle Real in Goleta (SCI)

To reach the Best Western South Coast Inn (SCI), if you are travelling by air into S.B. Airport and arriving prior to 10 pm, simply use the courtesy phone in the terminal and call for SCI to pick you up. If you are travelling by S.B. Airbus and arriving prior to 10 pm, call SCI and they will send the shuttle to pick you up. If you are arriving later than 10 pm, call a taxi to deliver you to the SCI. (DO NOT USE A TAXI WAITING OUTSIDE THE AIRLINE TERMINAL. THEY CHARGE TOO MUCH. CALL A TAXI.) If you are driving from LAX, travel north on Freeway #405. Take the U.S. 101 exit north to Santa Barbara (a total trip of about 2 hours). Take the Patterson offramp and turn right onto Patterson Avenue and at the first stoplight turn left onto Calle Real. The SCI is on the right about 1 mile. If you are driving from San Francisco, use the U.S. 101 south to the Patterson Avenue offramp, turn left onto Patterson Avenue and at the stoplight turn left onto Calle Real. The SCI is on the right about 1 mile.

South Coast Inn can be reached at (800) 350-3614, from within the continental United States, or at (805) 967-3200. Their fax is (805) 683-4466. They offer high speed Internet access in all rooms, although it does require an Ethernet cord (available at the front desk for guest convenience). Wireless access is available in the lobby and pool area. They also offer a free continental breakfast each morning to guests.

Directions to UCSB Campus

From Los Angeles International Airport:

We recommend the Santa Barbara Airbus (805/964-7759, 800/423-1618), particularly if you must return to LAX for your departing flight. The Airbus is reliable, and offers a reasonable round-trip fare of approximately $60 (prepaid). The only drop-off point in Goleta is 5755 Thornwood Drive. You will need to call a cab or a courtesy shuttle from your hotel to take you to your local destination. If you are driving from LAX, exit the airport lot at Sepulveda Blvd., and follow Sepulveda Blvd. to the 405 North Freeway entrance. Follow 405 North to 101 North (Ventura Freeway). Remain on the 101 (for approximately one and a half hours) into Santa Barbara. Proceed through Santa Barbara and north for approximately 10 miles. Exit at the "UCSB/Ward Memorial (Highway 217) offramp. Follow the signs from there onto campus. Once you enter the campus, ask the kiosk attendant for "Kohn Hall" or the KITP.

From Santa Barbara Airport:

Unless you have a personal pickup planned, the most convenient way to get to UCSB from S.B. airport is to call a cab. The fare for the cab should be about $15 (horribly expensive) even though we are located adjacent to the airport. If you are renting a car at the airport, turn to your right (toward the ocean) as you exit the airport lot, onto William Moffet Lane, then follow the signs onto campus. It is less than a five-minute drive. See above for directions on-campus.
