Frontier AI systems occupy an intermediate regime between early transformer language models and artificial superintelligence. One peculiar aspect of this time is that in mathematics the models have made seminal breakthroughs autonomously, while for theoretical physics they are only useful tools. This program aims to understand and close that gap, sharpening significant open problems in theoretical physics for the coming generation of models and anticipating implications for the future of the field.
