Unconventional Magnetism and Novel Probes in Heterostructures

Coordinators: Zhu-Xi Luo, Urban Seifert, and Ruben Verresen

The recent observation of magnetism down to the monolayer limit has sparked strong interest in van-der-Waals (vdW) materials with intrinsic magnetism. One of the most promising directions is the construction of heterostructures: stacks of two-dimensional layers created via vdW forces.

The aim of this event is to provide an overview of these recent developments, bringing together experimentalists who pioneer novel ways to probe and control magnetism in van-der-Waals materials as well as theorists investigating novel phenomena, including electric signatures and tunneling spectroscopy of topological phases and heterostructure engineering of (doped) spin liquids. This Conference will crystallize an outline of new directions for future research in this exciting new field.
