Is There a Galactic Fog?

Astronomers have recently discovered that even the darkest, most desolate reaches of galaxies are full of gas clouds. These clouds challenge our understanding of how galaxies form. However, Mike McCourt, a KITP astrophysicist, will show that you can understand them just by sitting on the beach and watching the fog roll in.
