Black Hole Astrophysics
Coordinators: Roger David Blandford, Douglas M. Eardley, Jean-Pierre Lasota
Black holes exist in galactic nuclei and in certain X-ray binaries found in our own Galaxy. This program focused on
astrophysical processes near black holes, and develop a theoretical framework for interpreting observational results. Topics
included dissipation and instabilities in accreting gas, magnetic and MHD effects, emission of radiation by thermal and
nonthermal processes, extraction of spin energy from rotating holes, formation of jets, and dynamics of star clusters containing
black holes.
